Court Street cannot be a ‘hunting ground’

Police boost visibility just as area MP cites local frustration over a missing “sense of urgency”

Daily police foot patrols in North Hamilton, along with an armed response vehicle stationed on Court Street.

This is the new directive of Police Commissioner Darrin Simons, in an effort to increase police visibility in an area rocked by three shooting murders in just over a month.

This comes just as area MP Jason Hayward relayed the frustration of residents and businesses – who want to feel safer in the “heart of the city”.

The area cannot be a hunting ground for killers, he told Gary Foster Skelton today. (WATCH above)

A Police Spokesperson subsequently told Bermuda Broadcasting that the Commissioner of Police has given directions for increased police presence in the North Hamilton area, with a particular focus on Court Street.

The spokesperson continued, “Dedicated officers, along with the Parish Constables Unit, are now conducting daily foot patrols, supported by an Armed Response Vehicle that will be visibly stationed at various points along Court Street at intervals.”

“Officers are not only maintaining a high-visibility and reassuring presence, but are also actively engaging with community members and delivering proactive, community-focused policing.”

Police operations in the area will be directly overseen by the Central Area’s new Officer-in-Charge, Chief Inspector Mark Tomlinson, who assumed the role in August following the retirement of Chief Inspector Darren Glasford.
