The Ministry of Home Affairs is holding a public town hall discussion on Government’s proposal to make Bermuda a full member of CARICOM
The public is being given the opportunity to have their questions answered on the PLP Government’s plan to pursue full CARICOM membership.
The Ministry of Home Affairs published a Green Paper in March outlining their intentions and the reasons behind them.
Government’s media messaging has focused on Bermuda’s historical Caribbean connections, and the opportunity to have a ‘seat at the table’ in deciding regional policy.
Switching from Associate membership to Full Membership is an eight-fold increase in cost – from just under $280-thousand a year to $2.28-Million. In the Green Paper, Government says this is “a fraction of the national budget committed to unlocking high-value benefits currently unavailable to us”.
