The Mirrors Programme’s Field of Learning Garden Club celebrated the end of Term 1 with a donation of fresh, homegrown produce to the residents of Summerhaven.
Kimberley Jackson, Programme Manager of The Mirrors Programme, said: “This heartfelt gesture reflects our commitment to teaching students valuable life skills while making a positive impact on the community. Through the Garden Club, students get hands-on experience growing vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers while also learning important lessons about teamwork, responsibility, and resilience. By donating their harvest to seniors and families in need, they also learn the joy of giving back and the power of community care.”
Tinee Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, stopped by the garden to meet with students as they closed out the term. She said: “The Mirrors Programme’s Field of Learning Garden Club is an example of how our young people can make a real difference. These students have shown dedication and kindness, and their efforts to support our seniors and families in need is inspiring. This initiative highlights the Mirrors Programme’s focus on leadership and social responsibility.”
The Field of Learning Garden Club is preparing for Term 2 which runs from January 21 to March 27, 2025. Sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm until sunset.
