TCD greenlights simpler vehicle inspection process

New changes aim to ease costs and stress for vehicle owners

The Bermuda Transport Control Department (TCD) has announced updates to its vehicle inspection process, making it simpler for vehicle owners. The new approach will steer away from checks for cosmetic issues and instead ensure vehicles meet safety standards for Bermuda’s roads.

Under the changes, cosmetic flaws that do not result in safety concerns will no longer cause vehicles to fail inspections.

Minister of Transport Wayne Furbert stated:”For years, vehicle inspections included not only safety checks but also an emphasis on cosmetic aspects such as spotless exteriors, dent-free panels, and pristine paintwork. Vehicle owners often have to invest significant time and money preparing their vehicles for inspection, which can be stressful and expensive.”

Minister Furbert  highlighted that the adjustments are part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to modernize services and reduce red tape, providing a smoother and more cost-effective experience for vehicle owners.

“By shifting our focus solely to safety requirements, we are making the inspection process more straightforward for vehicle owners,” he added. ” … These changes will also reduce financial burdens, particularly during this challenging economic climate.”
