Bermudian swimmer Thomas Cechini produced a masterclass in consistency and speed as he and his Loyola University Maryland teammates competed at the 2026 ECAC Swimming and Diving Championships at Bucknell University. In a dominant display, the Loyola sophomore advanced to five A Finals, playing a pivotal role in the Greyhounds securing a second-place finish in the overall men’s team standings.
Cechini’s individual campaign was headlined by a string of lifetime bests in both freestyle and butterfly events. In the Men’s 500-Yard Freestyle A Final, he secured a seventh-place finish with a new Personal Best of 4:32.06. He mirrored that placement in the 200-Yard Freestyle, touching the wall in 1:39.23 after clocking a blistering 1:38.89 Personal Best during the preliminary rounds.
His versatility was further evidenced in the 200-Yard Butterfly A Final, where he claimed eighth place with a fresh Personal Best of 1:50.59. Beyond his individual accolades, Cechini was a vital asset to the Loyola relay squads. He helped anchor the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay team to a podium finish in 3:00.36 and contributed to a silver-medal performance in the 400-Yard Medley Relay with a highly competitive 3:12.60.
This comprehensive set of results marks a significant milestone in Cechini’s collegiate career, firmly establishing him as a premier middle-distance threat on the East Coast as he continues to climb the ranks of NCAA swimming.
