Bermuda National Mountain Bike Champion, Robin Horsfield, has secured his second Ontario provincial championship—this time in the far less familiar discipline of cyclocross.
In an unlikely story of resilience, Horsfield, whose 2025 mountain bike season was largely derailed by health complications, took to the snowy cyclocross course at Albion Hills, Ontario, to secure a sensational victory. Albion Hills holds special significance for Horsfield, being the site of his first elite men’s Ontario Cup Mountain Bike podium seven years ago.
Horsfield’s long-time coach, Mark Brown, celebrated the win, stating, “To me it’s one of the best possible endings for this season because it is the definition of never giving up.”
Despite being forced to line up near the back of the field due to his lack of cyclocross racing experience, Horsfield executed a brilliant start. He moved into third place within the first 400 meters before breaking away with Emilien Belzile (the 2024 Canada National Junior ‘Cross Champion) by the end of the first kilometre. Horsfield towed Belzile for three laps before making his decisive move, breaking away to secure the provincial title with a conclusive gap over second-place Dan Souter.
