
Dennis Mbelenzi and Maddie Durkin produced commanding performances on the roads of Bermuda to claim the prestigious RenaissanceRe 10-Mile Challenge titles.
In the men’s elite division, Mbelenzi was in a league of his own, stopping the clock in a blistering 53 minutes and 55 seconds.
His relentless pace left perennial contender Sean Trott to settle for second in 56:16, while Kallan Richardson rounded out the podium just under a minute later.
Maddie Durkin delivered a masterclass in endurance in the women’s race, finishing an incredible 12th overall in 1:04:13.
She secured a comfortable cushion over runner-up Stepanka Sprincova (1:06:54), with Teresa Ruiz finishing third.
The five-mile challenge offered a unique family double as Colette Durkin mirrored her relative’s success to win the women’s title in 37:07, holding off Anna Laura Hocking.
In the men’s sprint, Chayce Smith dominated the field, surging ahead to win in 28:54, well clear of Tim Price and Chefton Hall.
The event highlighted the enduring strength of Bermuda’s running community, with the Durkin family emerging as the standout story of the day.
As the season intensifies, the island’s top athletes now shift their focus toward a busy summer of international fixtures.
