Gov’t expecting new tractor to help clear beaches
Government says it understands the concern over a recent build-up of seaweed on Horseshoe Bay and other beaches.
However, a Ministry of Public Works spokesperson said it’s a natural seasonal occurance due to Bermuda’s position in the Atlantic.
It’s not unusual, and should not cause alarm, the spokesperson said.
All the same, Government will make investments to maintain the beauty of our beaches, we were told. Tractors have been deployed to remove the seaweed.
The spokesperson said, “to enhance our efforts and increase our operational capacity, funding for an additional tractor has already been approved, and procurement is underway.”
“Delivery of the new tractor is expected within six to eight weeks of the order being placed.”
“In the interim, the Department is also exploring whether an additional tractor can be sourced, on an as-needed basis.”
