Expect heightened police patrols through festive season

Police usually see an uptick in criminality and anti-social behaviour during the festive period.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesperson said “To deter opportunistic crime and provide public reassurance, residents can expect proactive police patrols across the island into the New Year.”

“The BPS is prepared to appropriately address any anti-social behaviour that may occur, and will use all lawful powers to deter and detect offenders”

Police have also issued some tips to secure your home, and avoid theft while shopping.

Residents should always lock doors and windows when leaving home and avoid displays of holiday gifts through windows or doors.

When out shopping, particularly if late night shopping, do not buy more than you can carry, police say.

Do not leave packages visible inside your vehicle, and only park in well-lit locations.

Furthermore, if you drink and drive this holiday, you will face the consequences…

Motorists are advised that road sobriety checkpoints will be in effect in all 9 parishes from Christmas Eve through Thursday January 2nd.

Police stated, “Please plan ahead, and do your part by not driving or riding impaired.”

“If you are intending to go out and socialise, make sure you have arranged for a designated driver, taxi or another responsible transportation service to get you to your destination safely.”
