Police are appealing for the public’s help in identifying two individuals on a motorcycle who were seen riding away from the area in an erratic manner.
Police responded to a report of gunshots received just after 10pm on Thursday, December 18th, and arrived to find the body of Mr Mallory inside a Pembroke residence.
The victim Mr Mallory was transported to the hospital, but pronounced dead shortly shortly after arrival.
Detective Chief Inspector Jason Smith today said their investigation suggests the shooting took place half-an-hour earlier than the time police were called – at 9:36pm on Thursday.
DCI Smith says they are looking for two riders on a dark-coloured motorcycle with a dark coloured back box.
“What’s unique about this particular box”, DCI Smith said, is that… It seems to be a bit of an older version.”
“The rider of the bike was wearing a light colored top, with writing or symbols on the front, and light colored pants with a gray helmet.”
“The passenger was wearing all dark clothing with a black helmet.”
DCI Smith said the investigation suggests the motorcycle left the scene on Spruce Lane, travelled south up the alleyway past the Anglican Church, left onto Saint Monica’s Road in Pembroke, then made a right turn on to The Glebe Road, heading towards Parsons Road.
DCI Smith said, “the behavior in which the bike was being ridden at that point was in an erratic manner.”
“So, if anyone in the area at the time – that’s about 9:36 pm on Thursday the 18th of December – they would have seen that particular bike. It is very, very critical to our lines of inquiry that you make contact with us as soon as possible.”
Responding to our questions, DCI Smith said CCTV footage is playing a major role in this investigation. Police are not releasing any images of the potential suspects at this point in the investigation, but may do so later.
Furthermore, there has already been an arrest in connection with this case – not for the actual shooting, but for sharing images of the dead victim on social media.
DCI Smith said, “there were several WhatsApp messages… that were circulating within our community that was depicting one, the scene, and secondly, unfortunately, the victim that was inside of that particular residence.”
“…as a result of that imagery being shown over the weekend, the police have arrested a 29-year-old man for improper use of public electronic communications, and a file is being prepared for review by the Department of Public Prosecutions.”
Calling on the community to help bring justice in this case, Detective Chief Inspector Jason Smith said, “Christmas is a time of giving, sharing and of loving. We have today a family that is grieving the loss of a son.”
“…we would ask you that in the spirit of giving, that you would assist us and give to this family the gift of closure, that we would be able to find those who are responsible for the murder of Mr. Mallory.”
