The PLP stalwart reflects on his time in the political arena

The election dust has settled, and Bermuda will be seeing new and familiar faces on the political scene.
One figure who will no longer be present in that arena is the former Deputy Premier and Minister of Home Affairs, Walter Roban. He has stepped down from front-line politics and is focused on the future.
Speaking to the political veteran on the eve of the February 18th election, Mr. Roban reflected on his time in Government and the programmes he was able to develop.
When asked what recent projects or initiatives he was most proud of, he pointed to the Ministry of Home Affairs’ undertakings in the areas of climate change and sustainability.
“The opportunity to have shaped a very robust and clear policy around climate…and to have worked with others in partnership to see that these issues have been looked at and addressed.”
“Also to have participated with other islands in the region and around the world with representing what is the voice of small island communities around the issues of climate, the environment, and biodiversity.”
“These are things that I have been very much committed to, with the view of fulfilling things which I feel are important to Bermuda—a clean energy future, a robust protection of our biodiversity, and creating opportunities for our people around how we’re going to address these issues.”
