The High Point Nature Reserve in Southampton is Buy Back Bermuda’s fourth nature reserve, officially opening on Earth Day (22 April 2025). Buy Back Bermuda—the collaborative undertaking of the Bermuda National Trust and the Bermuda Audubon Society—provides 10 acres of pristine parkland for the public to explore and enjoy.

Governor Andrew Murdoch, joined by local media and members of the public, was on-site for a ceremonial vine-cutting and the inaugural first hike of one High Point’s many trails.

Janice Hetzel, President of the Bermuda Audubon Society, says that work is still being undertaken to complete some of the coastal trails, and adding nesting boxes for bluebirds.

“Alongside these efforts, we will continue to we will continue working to remove invasive species, and replace them with native and endemic plants. Many of you know that this is a long and difficult process, but with dedication and perseverance we aim to create a truly healthy ecosystem that’s rich in biodiversity, and mostly free of (invasive plants).”
