Bermuda’s national time-trial champion Nicholas Narraway has made an encouraging start to his campaign at the 16th Sibiu Cycling Tour in Romania, placing himself firmly in the mix after a high-octane opening day.
Competing in the prestigious UCI 2.1-rated Europe Tour event, Narraway stopped the clock in 4 minutes and 34 seconds to secure 48th place in the Stage 1b International Time Trial.
The short, technical 3.2km urban loop through the historic heart of Sibiu was designed for pure, explosive power. Flying the flag for Competitive Edge Racing, Narraway handled the tricky cobblestones and tight corners with precision, finishing just 18 seconds adrift of the scorching benchmark set by the stage winner.
That honor went to Denmark’s Julius Johansen, representing WorldTour powerhouse UAE Team Emirates – XRG, who mastered the course to claim victory in a blistering 4:16.
For Narraway, matching engines against top professional outfits serves as a vital benchmark. The narrow margins across the top 50 riders underline the razor-thin nature of European racing, where fractions of a second separate the field.
The opening time trial acts as a fast curtain-raiser before the peloton hits the brutal mountain terrain that defines the tour, where riders will face the high-altitude challenges of the Southern Carpathians over the next three days.
