The Gulden Leeuw is the latest in a growing list of Tall Ships that have graced St. George’s in recent weeks.
The ship is currently moored at Penno’s Wharf and is drawing lots of attention from visitors and local alike.

The Gulden Leeuw (Dutch for ‘Golden Lion’) is one of the world’s largest three-mast-topsail schooners and is used to train students to become skilled seafarers.
The vessel is 54-feet in length and climbing its 130-foot mast to unfurl the square sails is equivalent to scaling a 12-storey building.

The Gulden Leeuw was first built in 1937 under the name Dana, as an ice-class ship for the Danish government. It spent many years conducting marine biological research and was completely restored in 2010.

The Gulden Leeuw can accommodate a crew of 24 plus 60 trainees – and up to 200 passengers for day sails. The ship’s home port is Kempen in the Netherlands.
