Former Premier says the late US Congressman opened doors as Bermuda sought tax treaty essential to IB growth
Charles Rangel, Harlem-Born U.S. congressman, passed away at 94 years old this week.
He was the last of the so-called “Gang of Four” or “Lions of Harlem” alongside Basil Paterson, Percy Sutton, Herman “Denny” Farrell and former Mayor David Dinkins – breaking down race and class barriers, and cutting paths for others to follow.
He also had a relationship with Bermuda.
In the 1980s, he helped then-Premier Sir John Swan as he advocated for the tax treaty that underpinned the growth of international business in Bermuda.
Sir John spoke to our Gary Foster Skelton (WATCH above).
