Wayne Caines has officially resigned his position as chair of the BTA.The news comes only weeks after stepping away from front-line politics.

Appointed in October 2020, Wayne Caines was Chair during the tenures of Glenn Jones as interim CEO, followed by CEO Charles Jeffers III, then finally current CEO Tracey Berkeley.

Owen Darrell, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, said, “Leading the Bermuda Tourism Authority during a period of significant upheaval required dedication and resilience.”

“Mr. Caines provided leadership through a critical time, and we recognize his efforts in helping to shape the organization’s recovery strategy.”

The BTA came under heavy scrutiny from the public in January after several high profile resignations, including Hazel Clark who resigned as Director of Global Business Development and Partnerships last December.

An independent culture review had been ordered by Minister Darrell last year to assess the environment within the BTA, the results of which have not been released to the public.

Bermuda Broadcasting submitted a PATI request for a copy of the review and await the findings.

Mr Caines stepped down as a PLP MP ahead of the recent General Election, and was replaced in C14 by the PLPs Alexa Lightbourne, who retained the seat.
