Cabinet Office Minister: Tribute ensures “her legacy endures at the very heart of our community”

The Youth Library is to be renamed in honour of Bermudian award-winning author, Florenz Webbe Maxwell.
The announcement came during this morning’s sitting of the House of Assembly and will be made official at a ceremony later this month.
Diallo Rabain, Minister for the Cabinet Office and Digital Innovation, described the retired librarian as a “true hero of our island ,” having been a member of The Progressive Group, which organised the 1959 Theatre Boycott – a turning point in Bermuda’s history that led to the breakdown of racial segregation.
Mrs Maxwell was also recognised for her decades of service as a librarian which saw the Youth Library be transformed into a magical and empowering space for children.
Minister Rabain said by renaming the resource after her, “we ensure her legacy endures at the very heart of our community.”
