Clean-up at site of proposed senior homes

Pending approvals, Cann Park II Senior Living Community on Sea Express Lane will sit opposite the original Dr Cann Park residential community built in 2005

The proposed site for 110 senior residences in Southampton is being cleared.

Pending approvals, Cann Park II Senior Living Community on Sea Express Lane will sit opposite the original Dr Cann Park residential community built in 2005.

The proposal would see, quote, “approximately 110 one-bedroom residential units specifically designed to support aging-in-place principles and independent living for seniors and persons requiring accessible accommodation.”

Cann Park II would include elevators, communal amenity areas, landscaped open spaces, and recreational facilities.

The original Dr Cann Park has about 100 one bedroom units, so the new additional could more than double the number of residences in the area.

The Royal Gazette reports that Preconco Ltd of Barboados has been chosen to build the precast concrete units.

There was no RFP for the project, as it was awarded through the Bermuda Housing Corporation, a quango.

Housing Minister Zane De Silva had previously indicated that RFPs can delay development.
