Flights grounded, power outages due to flux of thunderstorms, says BWS

Videos of water spout formations were captured over the weekend at Ferry Reach in St. George’s.

Powerful weather conditions this weekend triggered spectacular lightning storms, thunder and even a waterspout or two.

There were also power cuts and flight delays at L.F.Wade International Airport. A spokesperson from Skyport confirmed six flights were impacted over Saturday and Sunday due to ‘severe thunderstorm activity.’

They said, “In accordance with standard operating procedures and global aviation safety practices designed to protect ground handling personnel from potential lightning strikes, temporary ‘Ground Stops’ were in effect on Saturday August 22 and Sunday August 23.

“The resulting suspension of ground activities, including fuelling, aircraft marshalling, and baggage handling, led to flight disruptions that trickled over into Monday August 24.”
