Bermuda’s golfers concluded their campaign at the Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship in South Carolina in style, highlighted by a Gross Division title for Ann Symonds and a share of top spot for Dave Abraham.
Symonds led the charge across the Grand Strand courses in Flight 53 (Women 59 & Under). Closing with an 88, she clinched the Gross Division title and finished third overall in the Net standings. Team-mate Angela Cook fired a final-round 85 to finish seventh, securing two top-ten spots for the island.
In Flight 22 (Mid Senior Men 60–69), Abraham mounted a late charge with a superb two-over-par 78 to finish in a tie for first place. Antony Than closed with a 90 to finish tied for 36th.
Key final-round highlights across the contingent:
- Tracy Burgess: Carded a clinical 77—shaving 14 strokes off her previous round—to take eighth in Flight 52 (Women’s Gross).
- Ann Mitchell: Signed for a consistent 88 to secure a tie for 16th in Flight 55 (Senior Women 60 & Above).
- Richard Marriott: Shot an 82 in Flight 9 (Senior Men 50–59) to place 36th, while Gary Venning completed his run in Flight 44 (Super Senior Men 70–79).
The displays capped a memorable week of endurance and shot-making for the Bermuda contingent at the world’s largest single-site amateur tournament.
