Jake Brislane and Christine Dailey kicked off Bermuda’s road racing season in emphatic fashion with commanding victories at the Swan’s Running Club Labour Day 5K.
Fresh from lowering the Bermuda national 5,000m record on the European track circuit last month, Brislane produced a ruthless solo performance. The form man pulled clear of the chasing pack from the outset, breaking the tape unchallenged in 15 minutes 54 seconds.
Kallan Richardson was the best of the rest, crossing 43 seconds adrift in 16:37 to claim second, while Sanchez Smith completed the men’s podium in 17:23.
In the women’s race, Dailey was simply a class apart. She stormed through the field to finish seventh overall in a swift 18:36, well clear of her rivals.
Stepanka Sprincova chased hard to take runner-up spot in 19:23 (12th overall), with veteran distance runner Rose-Anna Hoey rounding out the top three in 20:15 (19th overall).
There was also plenty of promise on display in the Junior 2.65K event. Nicolás Gómez Caines delivered an electric front-running display to take the outright win in 7:29, while Izzy Stevens secured the girls’ title with an impressive ninth-place overall finish in 9:08.
