Coast guard finds debris from missing air ambulance

ABC News reports that the U.S. Coast Guard says it has located debris from the air ambulance that went missing while transporting a patient and their family member from Bermuda to Boston.

The debris field was located off Nantucket, the Coast Guard said, and was confirmed to be linked to the missing Gulfstream G-100.

Coast Guard search efforts will continue through the night, and a press conference will be held on Sunday to provide a further update.

The missing air ambulance left Bermuda around 12:40am on Saturday,
carrying a Bermudian patient and a family member, with two pilots and two medical staff who are all Canadian.

US Air Traffic Control lost contact with the aircraft shortly after it appears the pilots had indicated they were “coming in blind”, and had declared an emergency.

Online flight telemetry data indicates that the jet experienced a sudden, rapid descent — dropping more than 9,000 feet in approximately two minutes.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a search and rescue alert for the plane at 1:20 am.

The U.S. Coast Guard has used air and sea vehicles throughout the day to search the ocean south of Nantucket.
