Keep Bermuda Beautiful (KBB) is calling on residents across the island to roll up their sleeves and help protect Bermuda’s coastline during the 2026 Island-Wide Coastal Cleanup, taking place from Friday, September 25 through Sunday, October 4.
Proudly sponsored by EY, the annual campaign will bring together individuals, families, schools, businesses, community organizations and groups of friends for 10 days of action along Bermuda’s beaches, shorelines and coastal areas.
Under this year’s theme, “Sea the Change, Bermuda!”, KBB is encouraging the community to form cleanup teams, choose a coastal location and be part of a collective effort to create cleaner coastlines—and lasting change.
KBB will work with registered teams to coordinate cleanup locations and provide supplies and guidance to help make participation easy and effective.
“The Island-Wide Coastal Cleanup shows what Bermuda can accomplish when we work together,” said Angel Smith, Executive Director of Keep Bermuda Beautiful. “Every piece of litter removed makes a difference, but the bigger goal is to change behaviors. We want people to think about where our waste comes from, where it ends up and what each of us can do to stop it from reaching our environment in the first place.”
The Island-Wide Coastal Cleanup has historically attracted upwards of 1,000 volunteers working at more than 50 coastal locations across Bermuda. In 2025, nearly 800 volunteers cleaned 74 coastal locations and removed more than 14,000 pounds of trash and marine debris.
But the campaign is about much more than what volunteers remove.
Marine debris threatens Bermuda’s beaches, coastal ecosystems and wildlife. Through the cleanup, KBB combines community action, environmental education and data collection to better understand the waste affecting Bermuda’s coastline and help identify opportunities for prevention.
Volunteers are encouraged to record the items they collect, including plastic bottles and pieces, food packaging, beverage cans, fishing gear, rope, microplastics and other debris. The information collected contributes to KBB’s ongoing marine-debris research and helps build a clearer picture of the types and sources of waste reaching Bermuda’s shores.
The Coastal Cleanup is part of KBB’s wider year-round effort to reduce waste and eliminate litter across the island. In 2025 alone, 5,140 KBB volunteers contributed 8,688 hours across 304 cleanups, removing 61 tons of litter and debris from Bermuda’s roadsides, trails, beaches and parks.
KBB’s mission is to engage individuals to take greater responsibility in reducing waste and eliminating litter through action and education. Campaigns such as the Island-Wide Coastal Cleanup turn that mission into action by giving people of all ages an opportunity to protect Bermuda while learning how everyday choices can help prevent waste and litter.
How to Get Involved
Getting involved is simple: gather your friends, family, co-workers or classmates, form a cleanup team and choose a coastal location you would like to clean. KBB will assist registered teams with location coordination, cleanup supplies and other details.
