A message circulated to supporters of Curtis Dickinson places the focus of recent court action on ‘ensuring that every member’s voice is heard’
Supporters of PLP leadership challenger Curtis Dickinson have been told that they derserve an election that is fair to all.
A message circulated to his supporters, understood to be from the campaign office, states that the focus of the continued court action is adherence to the Progressive Labour Party’s constitution, procudural fairness and “ensuring that every member’s voice is heard”.
The message also states that the proceedings should not be described as personal attacks on Party Chair Dawn Simmons and Secretary General Patricia Basden, emphasising that they are before the court simply because of the offices they hold within the party.
“We agree that they have served the Party with distinction”, the message reads.
Supporters were also told that substantive issues remain before the court. The new PLP membership rules that were passed by the Central Committee on August 24th cannot presently be implemented – and therefore newer members can still be selected as delegates for the upcoming Annual General Conference.
Delegates will be expected to represent the position of their branches when they vote in the PLP leadership election.
The message states that the court “identified questions concerning the ability of the Central Committee to change our Constitution, retrospective changes to the Membership process, and procedural fairness.”
“Party officers are also required to provide certain records and information relating to the membership and delegate process so that a fair hearing can be held.”
The matter is set to go to trial on October 1st.
