World Physiotherapy Day highlights role of physio in heart health, stroke recovery

Today marks World Physiotherapy Day, highlighting the important role physiotherapists play in keeping people healthy, mobile and independent.

This year’s focus is on cardiovascular disease and stroke, kicking off a four-year global focus on noncommunicable diseases.

Qian Dickinson spoke with Dr. Kimberley Watkins, Senior Rehabilitation Physiotherapist at Evolution Healing Center, about the significance of the day and the role physiotherapy can play in prevention, recovery and improving quality of life.

But physiotherapy extends well beyond recovery from major illness or injury. We also asked about some of the most common reasons people in Bermuda seek physiotherapy — and the conditions therapists are seeing most often.
