Artificial intelligence fraud prompts local backlash

Cybersecurity expert Dion Smith providing tips for safer web browsing

Internet users are being urged to remain vigilant following a spate of fraudulent social media posts and spam calls. The government and private sector warning the public of ongoing attacks by cyber-criminals.

Recently, an artificial intelligence-generated ad on Facebook depicted Premier David Burt promoting a fake get-rich-quick scheme that requested users financial details, and HSBC has warned clients of callers masquerading as bank representatives in an act known as ‘vishing’—short for ‘voice phishing’.

Dion Smith, founder of Smith Technologies Limited, says that fraudsters have become craftier in their attempts to access victims’ personal data.
