Issues with cleaning equipment at the hospital affected 22 patients this week.
A BHB spokesperson confirmed two specialist washers that clean scopes used for colonoscopies and endoscopies had issues, resulting in a technician being flown in on Wednesday to carry out the repairs to one of the washers.
They explained, “Our other washers were working, so all other surgeries continued as usual. ….one of the scope washers was repaired which meant these procedures could continue to their normal schedule from today.”
The spokesperson said they are awaiting a part to be sourced for the second scope washer, and the department is capable of running their full list of colonoscopy and endoscopy procedures with one washer.
