Press release:
Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre proudly presents Garden of Light: Crafted Seeds of Community, a community art exhibition at the Bermuda Society of Arts from June 6 to June 30.
Held in honour of Cancer Survivor Month and marking 80 years of service to the people of Bermuda, this vibrant exhibition features handcrafted artworks that reflect the island’s shared journey through cancer, past and present.
The Garden of Light features three large-scale murals painted by Relay For Life of Bermuda participants under the guidance of local artist Carlos Santana, along with dozens of handcrafted flowers and luminaria-inspired pieces created during community art workshops. These collective works serve as powerful tributes to survivors, caregivers, and those we have lost.
The exhibition will also include submitted artworks from the public and a video compilation reflecting the spirit of survivorship over the years, seen through the lens of Relay For Life.
“These works are more than art—they’re shared expressions of hope, healing, and remembrance,” says Christine Lee, Marketing and Graphic Design Coordinator at BCHC. “This exhibition reflects the many hands and hearts that have helped cultivate a community of care, and it’s our way of saying thank you.”
The exhibition also spotlights the Equal Access Fund, which ensures that all individuals, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay, can access essential early detection and cancer treatment services. Through art and storytelling, the exhibition raises awareness of the importance of equitable cancer care.
Last Chance to Be Part of the Garden!
Join us in cultivating a community of light, hope, and healing at our Community Crafting Workshop! This free, hands-on session invites participants to create handcrafted flowers from pool noodles, paper, and recycled materials. Each piece will become part of the Garden of Light: Crafted Seeds of Community exhibition. Together, our crafted creations will honour the journey of cancer survivors and caregivers and the spirit of community that uplifts them.
