Ben Smith, the Deputy Leader of the One Bermuda Alliance argues that prospective athletes should not be held back by personal finances

Shadow Sport Minister Ben Smith is proposing a sports ambassador program to allow elite athletes to compete being backed with health insurance and other social benefits.
Mr. Smith, who is also Deputy Leader of the One Bermuda Alliance is advocating for greater social protections for Bermuda athletes where personal finances determine whether they are successful or not.
Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport said the government has provided several increases to grants and the Elite Athlete Fund though, says he’s open to further discussions.
