Imani Phillips shines at the APP $15K Next Pickleball Tournament

Bermudian pickleball talent Imani Phillips has made a remarkable impact at the APP Next $15K Pickleball Tournament in St. Louis, emerging as a Back Draw/Consolation finalist in the Women’s Open Division after a sensational run.

The tournament, a significant event for America’s most promising players under 23, saw 80 athletes vying for the “CHAMPION” title and a share of the $15,000 prize money.

Phillips began her campaign with a dominant 21-9 victory over American Ansley Drenner in her Women’s Open First Round match. Though her mixed doubles challenge ended early, and she exited the main singles draw in the second round to Australia’s Emilia Schmidt, Phillips displayed incredible resilience.

Undeterred, she embarked on a thrilling journey through the Back Draw/Consolation Round. After a bye and an opponent’s injury withdrawal, Phillips showcased her skill by defeating American Emma Nelson 16-14, then Jade Rau 15-8. Her impressive form continued into the semi-finals, where she overcame Lauren Mercado 15-9.

This set up a thrilling final against American Brooke Revuelta. Despite a display of composure and strategic play, Phillips narrowly fell in a nail-biting 15-13 contest, concluding a truly sensational and inspiring performance in St. Louis.
