Tennis: Phillips’ Impressive Run Ends in Monastir

Bermudian pro goes down to American Cooper Williams in straight sets

Bermudian tennis player Daniel Phillips has concluded his commendable journey at the M15 Monastir ITF Tournament in Tunisia, bowing out in his second-round main draw match.

Phillips, who had successfully navigated the demanding qualifying rounds and secured a victory in his first main draw encounter, faced a significant challenge in American Cooper Williams. Williams, a notable talent with a career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 847 and a boys’ doubles title at the 2023 Australian Open to his name, ultimately proved too strong.

Despite a spirited effort, Phillips fell in straight sets, with Williams claiming a 7-5, 6-1 victory.

While the second-round exit marks the end of his run in Monastir, Phillips’s performance underscores his consistent progress on the professional circuit. Having successfully qualified for two consecutive ITF main draws and secured a main draw win, his ability to compete at this level continues to develop. This experience against a high-calibre opponent like Williams will undoubtedly be invaluable as Phillips pushes forward in his burgeoning career.
