Groups team-up to keep Cup Match clean

KBB Partners with Recycle Bermuda and the Department of Waste Management for the 2025 Cup Match Classics – “Keep Cup Match Clean” Campaign

Keep Bermuda Beautiful (KBB) is proud to partner with Recycle Bermuda and the Department of Waste Management to launch the “Keep Cup Match Clean” campaign at the 2025 Annual Cup Match Classics, taking place at Wellington Oval in St. George’s (SGCC). The campaign encourages all spectators to properly dispose of waste and recycling throughout the two-day event.

KBB Executive Director, Angel Smith, expressed her gratitude to the KBB team for their dedication and hard work in preparing for this year’s campaign. “From social media outreach to hanging banners, collecting and delivering supplies, and coordinating logistics, the KBB team – Abby, Alandra, Amaris, and Ashlee-Rose – has been incredible. I couldn’t have done it without them,” said Smith. She also extended special thanks to the K. Margaret Carter team for preparing bundled bags for every spot holder. Each bundle contains one black bag for general waste and blue bags for recyclables, along with a reminder of what Bermuda recycles (TAG – tin, aluminium, and glass).

Smith also thanked those who helped KBB spread the word by taking part in short social media reels promoting the campaign, including St. George’s Cricket Club President Mishael Paynter, Somerset Cricket Club President Richard Scott, team coaches Janeiro Tucker (Somerset) and Clay Smith (St. George’s), as well as St. George’s Captain Sinclair Smith Jr. and Vice-Captain Macai Simmons. “We are truly grateful to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to support our efforts,” said Smith.

KBB is pleased to have collaborated with Mr. Paynter and Mr. Gregory Burrows of JZT Maintenance to create and implement the event’s waste management plan. Together, they aim to reduce litter, boost recycling rates, and ensure the grounds remain clean for over 12,000 fans and visitors expected to attend.

To support this effort, additional waste and recycling bins have been placed throughout the grounds. KBB is challenging all Cup Match spot holders to make use of the provided bags and share their efforts on social media. By following Keep Bermuda Beautiful on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok, tagging the organisation, and using the hashtag #keepcupmatchclean, participants can enter a draw to win a discount on their 2026 Cup Match spot. The winner will be announced on Friday, 8 August.

“Yesterday the field was coming alive with energy as branding was being installed, vendors set up, and spot holders prepare for another unforgettable Cup Match,” said Smith. “As we celebrate this historic holiday, whether you’re at the game, relaxing on the beach, boating, or enjoying time at home, let’s all do our part to keep Bermuda clean and beautiful for everyone. Wishing both teams the best of luck and everyone a safe and happy Cup Match Holiday!”
