A possible lightning strike impacted BELCO’s network equipment overnight affecting at least 130 customers, said BELCO today.
Technical teams are currently working to restore power to customers impacted today after the outage occurred around 4.41am.
As of 1.25pm Monday, only 5 customers were still without power.
BELCO Managing Director, Shelly Leman said: “…customers in the West end of the island experienced a power outage likely caused by lightning striking Bermuda Electric Light Company (BELCO) network equipment.
“BELCO crews responded immediately and have successfully restored power to the majority of affected customers.
“However, approximately 136 customers in the Watford Bridge, Malabar Road, Mangrove Bay Road, Loyalty Drive, and East Shore Road areas remain without power.”
The utility company asked residents to keep sensitive electrical equipment unplugged while work continues to restore power.
Ms. Leman added, “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank our customers for their patience during this time.”
