Skyport & Gov’t say contingency measures have ensured no interruption to outgoing mail

Issues with the airport X-Ray machine have not delayed outgoing mail, according to both Skyport and Government.
Bermuda Broadcasting enquired about the situation after a member of the public said their mail to the US had not left the island.
A Skyport spokesperson told us that the primary X-ray machine used used to screen outgoing mail is undergoing maintenance.
However, the spokesperson said overseas mail continues to depart the island without interruption, and in the interim, the Bermuda Post Office and its stakeholders have been supplied with contingency measures to scan outgoing mail, in compliance with airlines’ security protocols.
A Cabinet Office spokesperson affirmed that contingency measures have been implemented, and that outgoing mail has continued to leave the island as scheduled.
The necessary replacement part for the X-Ray machine is expected to arrive next week.
