The colonial system still impacts the mindset of gang members, according to Pastor Leroy Bean, who advocates for a therapeutic approach
Last month, Police, Government and the Governor held a Town Hall meeting to speak to and hear from the community regarding gun and gang violence.
Pastor Leroy Bean, Government’s Gang Violence Reduction Coordinator since 2017, was in attendance.
He sat down with Gary Foster Skelton to discuss some of the things that he thinks may have been missing from that discussion – namely, root causes.
In part one of our extended interview, Pastor Bean talks at length about trans-generational trauma.
He believes the systemic root of colonialism can be seen in the mindset of gang members – and we need to think both reparatively and therapeutically to address it. (WATCH above)
In the next chapter, Pastor Bean gives insight into the work of the Gang Violence Reduction Taskforce.
