Police released a lighthearted video with a serious message ahead of the holiday – warning Christmas revellers against ‘elfing around’.

The video on BPS social media showed some animated elves making poor choices such as drinking and driving, becoming violent after alcohol, and even thieving – all resulting in a Christmas vacation spent in a police cell.

Police followed up with a subsequent post that said some elfing around had begun, with at least three arrests on Christmas Eve and early Christmas morning for impaired driving, and another arrest for multiple offences, including possession of prohibited weapons, possession of controlled drugs and possession of drug equipment.

The public is advised that police roadside sobriety checkpoints are in effect in all parishes until January 5, in conjunction with speed checks and stop and search activity.
