Police warn about ‘suspicious packages’ washing ashore

Authorities say the items are not believed to pose a public safety threat but should not be touched and must be reported

The Bermuda Police Service issued the below media release.

In recent weeks, the Bermuda Police Service has been alerted to a number of suspicious packages, found washed up on some South Shore beaches.

While there has been no indication that these items pose a threat to public safety, should you come into contact with or happen upon any of these packages you are advised not to touch, or open them, as they may contain substances that could pose a health risk if handled.

We also urge that you do not go in search of these packages or take possession of them should you find any.

Should you encounter any suspicious package:

  • Do not handle it
  • Keep a safe distance
  • Immediately call 911 or, 211 and provide a description and location of the item

We appreciate your assistance and cooperation in addressing this situation.
