Bermuda selects trio for Junior Davis Cup challenge

Bermuda has named its three-man squad for the 2026 Junior Davis Cup, as the island’s most promising young talents prepare for the international stage.

Michael Collins, Hassan Khan, and Jaden Jones will lead the charge at the Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Guatemala, running from February 22nd to 27th. The event serves as the primary gateway for Caribbean and North American nations eyeing the final qualifying rounds this spring.

The squad travels under the guidance of veteran coach Brent Smith, who faces the dual challenge of navigating Guatemala City’s high altitude and technical clay courts. The tournament features a grueling schedule of both singles and doubles rubbers, demanding peak physical condition.

For the trio, the call-up follows a series of consistent performances on the domestic circuit. Having honed their skills at the W.E.R. Joell Tennis Stadium, the team is now tasked with translating that local form into regional results.

The selection comes amid a surge of optimism for Bermudian tennis following the senior team’s success in Davis Cup World Group II. By investing in this junior “pathway”—previously navigated by the likes of Daniel Phillips—the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association aims to bridge the gap between local talent and the professional ranks.

As the team departs, the objective remains clear: secure a top-place finish and maintain Bermuda’s reputation as a resilient force in regional team tennis.
