Government issues notice on sex offender release

Ernest Charles McQueen due for release Friday but expected to be detained pending deportation

Government has issued notice of the impending release of a sex offender.

Ernest Charles McQueen, aged 58, was convicted of the sexual exploitation of a young person by a person in a position of trust.

McQueen lives in Pembroke and will be released on Friday.

However, it should be noted that the Minister of Economy and Labour and the Department of Immigration have advised that he is scheduled for imminent deportation, pending which he will be detained in custody.

Under the Criminal Code, the Minister of Justice is empowered to disclose information in relation to sex offenders who are considered a risk of significant harm to the public.

The minister consulted with the Commissioner of Police before issuing this public notice.
