Quarter-final heartbreak for Bermuda on St Lucia sands

The sun-soaked sands of Cul de Sac provided a backdrop of high drama and eventual disappointment for Bermuda’s beach volleyball elite, as both pairings saw their 2026 ECVA Senior Beach Volleyball campaigns come to a close in Saint Lucia.

In the Men’s Division, Benjamin Barnett and Sean Tucker were forced to navigate a grueling morning. After a physical 2-1 defeat in their final pool match against St. Kitts & Nevis, the Bermudian duo showed immense resolve to secure a Quarter-Final berth. However, they met a formidable wall in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ Julian Bristol and Elkreen Morton. In a match of razor-thin margins, Barnett and Tucker fell in straight sets, 21-17, 21-17, to exit the competition.

There was similar frustration for Hailey Trott and Kayley Hamilton in the Women’s Division. Facing a clinical Dominica side in a must-win Pool A fixture, the Bermudian pair struggled to break through a resilient Dominican defense. A 21-18, 21-13 defeat confirmed their exit before the knockout stages, bringing a premature end to a campaign that had promised much after a strong opening day.

While the Gombey Warriors leave Saint Lucia without silverware, the exposure to the region’s top-tier talent provides vital momentum. With the international summer window looming, Bermuda’s focus now shifts to refining the tactical breakthroughs needed to turn these narrow margins into podium finishes.
