Race organisers are inviting the community to help support one of Bermuda’s longest-running sporting traditions
Every year on the Bermuda Day holiday, something remarkable happens. Thousands of runners take to the roads, spectators line the
streets, and Bermuda comes alive in a way that is entirely its own. The Bermuda Half Marathon Derby is more than a race. It is one of this island’s most enduring traditions, and it runs because of the people who show up to make it happen.
The Bermuda Half Marathon Derby Committee is calling on Bermudians and residents of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to join the volunteer crew that keeps Derby Day moving. We are especially looking for Race Marshalls.
Derby Volunteer Coordinator shares, “We are especially looking for Race Marshalls, the backbone of a safe and well-run event. Stationed along the course, they guide runners, support pedestrian safety, assist with traffic management, and serve as a friendly face for everyone on the road that day.” No special experience is required – just reliability, a good attitude, and a willingness to be part of something the whole island looks forward to.
Race Director Roger Lee encouraged, “Whether you are a seasoned volunteer or have never done it before, this is one of the most rewarding ways to spend a Friday morning, even on a holiday, and you will walk away knowing you helped pull off one of Bermuda’s most iconic sporting events.”
Volunteering is open to individuals, groups, clubs, corporate teams, and community organizations. It is a great opportunity for colleagues looking for a team-building experience, or anyone who simply wants to give back to an event that gives so much to this community.
