BPS officers complete trauma-informed training course

The aim of the internationally recognised course is to arm police with enhanced skills to identify and respond to trauma.

A core goal of a two-week course recently completed by 24 local officers is to bring officers up to speed with trauma-informed care.

Assistant Commissioner James Howard said the knowledge gained from such training can help the public feel validated and heard by officers.

UK based experts taught officers to identify and respond to common ‘fight or flight’ responses within themselves and when in the field.

Assistant Commissioner James Howard said the aim is to have at least one-third of the Bermuda Police Service trained in this area by the end of 2025.
