‘Smith’s West candidate change did not follow OBA rules’

Former OBA candidate Vic Ball has responded publicly to his expulsion from the party yesterday.

This comes three months after his 2020 election opponent Vance Campbell crossed the floor from the PLP, and was adopted in Vic Ball’s place in Smith’s West.

Since then, Mr Ball had declined media requests for comment – but now he is sharing his perspective on events in constituency 9. He claims Vance Campbell’s adoption had not followed the party’s constitutional process.

In a letter addressed to Mr Ball, seen by Bermuda Broadcasting, the OBA Executive Committee cites behaviour that has allegedly been contrary to the party’s principles as the reason behind the withdrawal of Mr Ball’s OBA membership.

Party Leader Jarion Richardson issued a statement, listing a number of complaints about Mr Ball pertaining to issues including communications, canvassing, party policies, and what he describes as “unsubstantiated allegations” against other party members.

We have reached out to the OBA for response to Mr Ball’s comments.
