IBF World Cup: Heartbreak for Bermuda as last-16 spot slips away in Munich

Seventh-place group finish takes island bowlers to brink of major upset

Bermuda’s bowlers suffered agonising heartbreak at the International Bowling Federation (IBF) World Cup in Munich, missing out on a place in the knockout stages by the narrowest of margins.

Competing at the Max Munich Bowling centre in Brunnthal, the squad concluded their overall campaign in 31st place after a spirited team effort that took them to the brink of a major upset.

Contesting Team Round Two in Group B—where matches were played across a best-of-three-game format with three points awarded for a win—Bermuda battled to a seventh-place finish on 18 points.

The team pushed their international rivals to the absolute wire, but ultimately fell just short of extending their stay in Germany. A single additional match victory would have propelled Bermuda into a decisive roll-off for a coveted spot in the last 16.

Despite the fine margins denying them a fairytale run into the knockout rounds, Bermuda depart having shown immense resolve and competitive grit against some of the world’s elite federations.
