Shared testimony at event next week will aim to help those struggling with mental health and substance abuse

International News via Reuters:
“Real Lives. Real Conversations: Mental Health, Substance Use, and the Conversations That Matter” on Tuesday, 10 November 2026, at 6:00pm at the CedarBridge Academy Cafetorium. Parents, guardians and members of the community are invited to attend.
Information on support services will be available from 5:00pm. Dinner and childcare will be provided to help parents and guardians participate.
Guest speakers Michael and Tia Buckham-White will share their deeply personal experience following the loss of their son, Story, whose life was affected by mental health and substance use challenges. Their story will provide an opportunity for honest discussion about the challenges families face and the importance of opening conversations before a crisis occurs.
The initiative aims to help parents feel more informed, supported and comfortable discussing mental health and substance use with their children, while connecting families with information about available support.
Schools across Bermuda are being encouraged to share the invitation and registration information through newsletters, parent groups and other communication channels. Community organisations are also encouraged to help spread the word.
Mental health and substance use challenges affect families throughout Bermuda. This event offers an opportunity to listen, learn and strengthen the support surrounding our young people.
