Mallory falls in three-set thriller as fading light halts Simons match at Joell Tennis Stadium

Three opening-round singles encounters went the full distance on an eventful day of main draw action as week two of the ITF M15 Bermuda Open got under way.
At the W.E.R. Joell Tennis Stadium, local favourite Trey Mallory pushed American Kian Vakili to the limit before Vakili recovered from a set down to seal a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory.
Fellow Bermudian wildcard Tariq Simons remains locked in a battle against American qualifier Mitchell Dobek. Simons claimed the opening set 7-6, but with the second deadlocked at 6-6, fading light forced play to be suspended overnight.
Elsewhere in singles, Nathan Cox edged Jamaica’s John Chin in three sets, qualifier Rohan Sachdev upset fifth seed Justin Roberts 6-4, 7-6, and Carel Aubriel Ngounoue dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 rout.
In doubles, unseeded duo Tyler Mercier and Ngounoue ousted fourth seeds Zachary Mintz and Norbert Zielinski 6-3, 6-0. Local hopes hang in the balance, with Mallory and Chin trailing second seeds Volodymyr Gurenko and Niels Peter Van Noord 6-4, 1-2 when play was halted.
