‘Suspect arrested’ after bridge pursuit

Motorcyclist and officer injured during early morning traffic

There was a serious road traffic collision on the Causeway, just east of Blue Hole Hill, St. George’s.

Initial information was that officers were conducting traffic checks near the junction of Cahow Way and Kindley Field Road, St George’s, when they observed a motorcycle being ridden by a male, traveling east at a high rate of speed.

Officers signaled for the bike rider to stop. He ignored their instruction and rode off in a westerly direction along the Causeway. He lost control of the vehicle and fell onto the roadway.

He sustained a leg injury and was attended to at the scene by EMTs before being transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

A police officer sustained a minor injury in the attempt to apprehend the suspect, who was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired.

The Causeway was closed for a period of time as a result of the collision while the scene was forensically processed.

Motorists heading into or out of St. George’s were urged to delay their travel during the closure.

The Causeway has since been reopened to traffic.
