Wintry weather knocks out power to 1000 homes

BELCO crews respond to pockets of outages island-wide

Around 1,000 homes were without power this morning as wintry weather swept across the island.

As of 10:30 am, the majority of affected households – around 800 – were in Warwick Parish according to BELCO’s online outage map.

In a post on the social media platform X, BELCO said crews were responding to an outage in Warwick after a palm branch made contact with power lines.

BELCO urged the public to exercise caution near working crews, stating, “The safety of you, our crew, the public and all road users is paramount.”

The utility company also advised affected residents to unplug sensitive equipment and electronics.

Meanwhile, the Bermuda Weather Service warned of a cold front crossing the island late this morning, bringing heavier showers and possible storm force gusts.

Looking ahead, the BWS added, “In the wake of the front, a series of troughs maintain the wintery windy weather and usher in more blustery showers through the rest of the week.”
