Female PLP politicians say their Government has made Bermuda fairer for women
Women are more supported and protected under the PLP than the OBA, according to female PLP politicians. They told media today that the PLP Government of the last 7 years has made Bermuda fairer for women.
Crystal Ceasar, Minister for the Cabinet Office, cited BEDC programmes to promote economic empowerment, expanded access to job training, and how the PLP has enabled women to work.
Tinee Furbert, Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, highlighted increases in benefits, and Senator Lindsay Simmons put the focus on what has been done to keep women safe.
When asked for the statistics to show how the PLP policies have positively impacted women, they did not have them at hand.
As shown at the end of the report above and in the charts below, Employment Survey statistics show that the female share of overall jobs has dropped by half a percent over the last decade.
However, Median Gross Annual Income for women has increased by about 4-and-a-half percent.
We have reached out to the police and women’s support groups for a better picture of what impact PLPs policies have had on women’s safety.
