Christopher hits four in Iceland as Smith’s Rhode Island surge

Bermuda international Nia Christopher stole the spotlight with a sensational four-goal display in Iceland, headlining a busy weekend of overseas action for the island’s professional footballers.

Christopher produced an attacking masterclass for FH Hafnarfjordur, spearheading a 5-0 rout of IBV Vestmannaeyjar. Striking in the fifth and seventh minutes to secure a 2-0 half-time cushion, the forward completed her haul with second-half finishes in the 59th and 90th minutes.

In the USL Championship, head coach Khano Smith guided Rhode Island FC to a vital 3-1 away win over Brooklyn FC. Goals from Amos Shapiro-Thompson, Karifa Yao, and Nick Scardina lifted RIFC into fifth in the Eastern Conference, within a point of a home play-off berth with four regular-season games remaining.

Elsewhere, Mia Fishel and Seattle Reign fell 1-0 to North Carolina Courage in the NWSL courtesy of Giana Paul’s strike, while midfielder Leilanni Nesbeth’s Como Women suffered a 2-0 defeat to Inter in Serie A.

In the Women’s FA Cup third qualifying round, Eva Frazzoni’s AFC Sudbury and Barnsley Women—featuring Aaliyah Nolan and Trinae Edwards—both bowed out in 2-1 defeats to Luton Town and Mancunian Unity respectively. Meanwhile, Jasmine Spence helped Newport Pagnell Town cruise to a 5-0 victory against Gainsborough Trinity.
